Mint Museum
Institutional | Charlotte, NC
THE HEROES
Design Architect: Machado and Silvetti Assoc. – Boston, MA
Architect of Record: Clark Patterson Lee – Charlotte, NC
Contractor: Batson-Cook – Atlanta, Georgia
THE CALL
The Mint Museum expansion in Center City Charlotte was designed with a very distinctive look to be a showplace for the community. The unique angles on the exterior of the building would be difficult, expensive and time consuming to create using other building systems.
PERFORMANCE
Metromont showed the design/build team that by making a few master molds and positioning each piece differently in the mold you could create many unique shapes without building a separate mold for each piece. The icing on the cake for the architect came when he discovered the coquina finish we could add, offering variations in the texture, color and finish. Once he decided on a color, we made several range samples showing the potential variations. The result? Another happy customer.
