The new Atala Hall project is a six-story, 100,000-SF total precast residential hall and 32,000-SF student center constructed for the University of South Florida on its Sarasota-Manatee campus. The residential hall features 100 units, accommodating up to 200 students. Metromont’s Bartow, FL manufacturing facility produced 97,604 SF of precast concrete to complete the residential hall, two-story dining area, and one-story conference room Metromont’s total precast concrete system of double tees roof and flooring system was used on the project, and was selected because it increases the owner’s asset value and reduces energy bills and maintenance costs during the life of the structure. Metromont used structural gray concrete which was later painted.
Metromont’s total precast schedule allowed for quicker ROI for the owner, a reduction in onsite general conditions, construction loan interest, and insurance costs. It also increased the probability of meeting a compressed schedule by moving construction to a manufacturing facility with environmentally controlled conditions. Atala Hall has achieved LEED Silver Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council for sustainable and green building features. The new residence hall and student center provides students with a dynamic and environmentally friendly facility that supports academic achievement and encourages community engagement
