Located in downtown Raleigh, the eight-level Bloc83 precast concrete parking garage provides 665 parking spaces for two adjacent Class-A, high-rise office buildings and a boutique hotel that are part of the mixed-use Bloc83 development. The parking garage features retail on the ground level, contributing to the live-work-play community Bloc83 brings to the city center.
The Bloc83 parking deck utilizes a gray concrete mix for a clean exterior design. Tetris-like metal screens accent the façade along the horizontal precast concrete spandrels, and the glass stair tower welcomes natural light while drawing eyes toward the neon BLOC83 signage on the side of the parking deck.
The tight job site and urban setting made precast the best building system for the Bloc83 parking deck, as precast components could be delivered as needed for installation. The use of precast concrete minimized job site traffic, reduced the overall construction schedule, and contributed to a safer, cleaner job site.
Metromont’s Greenville and Spartanburg plants produced 195,882 SF of precast concrete for the project. Precast erection was completed within four months, while the construction of Glenwood One was also going on beside it.
