Originally designed as tilt-up with structural steel framing, the Upshot Medical Center and Parking Deck at Mills Park in Orlando was converted to a total precast concrete solution that would meet the developer’s vision while offering a more cost-effective and schedule-friendly building solution. The new Upshot Medical Center includes a five-story, 72,000-SF total precast north tower and a five-level, 237,774-SF precast parking deck that will provide more than 850 parking spaces for staff and visitors of the medical center. The project is designed for a six-story total precast office tower to potentially be constructed in the future.
Designed to provide a socially responsible, healthy environment, the Upshot Medical Center represents one of the only Class A, LEED-designed medical office projects of this size in the country. The project utilizes sustainable building design that promotes well-being from the inside out, such as an on-site oxygen farm infrastructure, chilled water HVAC system piped for expanded capacity, covered patient drop-off areas, and large windows that provide lots natural light. Features of the buildings include pre-glazed curtain wall to provide ultra-thermal performance, outdoor courtyard, and top-floor terrace.
Metromont’s Bartow manufacturing facility produced 70,500 SF of precast concrete for the total precast office tower, and 237,774 SF of precast for the parking deck. The tower includes exterior architectural load bearing panels with integral color, sandblast finish, formliner, and cast-in thin-brick finishes, as well as cantilevered floors for canted glass. The project is anticipated to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2024.
